Workshop on International Wildlife Trafficking and CITES

On March 27 – 31, 2023, the Lao Customs Department of the Ministry of Finance of Lao PDR, in collaboration with ILSTA and the World Customs Organization (WCO), is conducting a workshop on Wildlife Crime Risk Management. This workshop is part of the IANAMA project,

The workshop will involve the elaboration of risk assessments to identify potential threats to enforcement efforts and developing strategies to address them. This will include identifying high trafficking activity areas, monitoring suspected traffickers’ movements and species, or collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to gather intelligence on trafficking networks. This will increase the effectiveness of efforts to combat illegal wildlife trafficking and organized crime.
ILSTA is committed to assisting Laos in combating wildlife crime through technical assistance to the relevant Lao law enforcement agencies, LCD, MPS, DoFI, and OSPP. Mr. Saiymanolin Sinbandith, Deputy Director of the Lao Customs Department, co-chaired the opening of the workshop in Vientiane Capital, which will run from March 27 – 31, 2023.
