Following the initial meeting in August 2023 in Bang Sean, Thailand, aimed at establishing an ASEAN Prosecutor/ Attorney General Body/ Entity, the Office of the Attorney General of Indonesia hosted the second consultative Meeting inviting all ASEAN States’ Attorney General Offices and representatives for a second consultative meeting to establish a Prosecutor/ Attorney General Body/Entity under the ASEAN Charter.
This event was co-chaired by the Attorney General’s office of Indonesia and the Deputy Attorney General of Thailand.
Underlining that Transnational crimes are becoming more complex, adaptable, and varied, posing increasing threats to human rights, national securities, economies, and livelihoods globally and across the ASEAN region. With criminals taking advantage of national borders, it’s crucial for ASEAN prosecutors to take a dynamic and comprehensive approach and coordinate together to address effectively organized crime and criminals, uphold the rule of law, and protect human rights, which are fundamental to societies.
Unifying against transnational crimes stands as the paramount interest of all ASEAN countries. The Prosecutor will not only further strengthen connections and partnerships, but will also facilitate the exchange of best practices and expertise among prosecutors from each ASEAN country and strengthen the Rule of Law in the region.
